Amy Axelson, Post-Production

This past October Amy directed at Carnegie Hall two short operas Figaro’s Last Hangover by Patrick Soluri and Lucy by Tom Cipullo. The performance was part of the Evening of Opera Shorts presented by the Remarkable Theater Brigade. Other recent directing credits include Albert Herrng and Manon for the 2009 season of Opera in the Ozarks. She returned after directing Così fan tutte and La Bohème in the 2008 season.

Other directing credits include Pacific Repertory Opera’s production of Un Ballo in Maschera, San Francisco Lyric Opera’s production of Madama Butterfly; Not a Spanish Kiss and Il Re Pastore for New York Chamber Opera, La Bohème and Tosca for Cantiamo Opera and Die Fledermaus for National Lyric Opera to name a few. Her award winning short documentary which she was co-producer, director and writer on Why We Wax was the darling of the 2007/2008 film festival circuit and is now playing on Current TV. Ms. Axelson has worked on productions in New York and across the country for companies such as Washington National Opera in Washington, D.C., Michigan Opera Theatre in Detroit, San Francisco Lyric Opera, Pine Mountain Music Festival, New York Chamber Opera and Dicapo Opera.

As an assistant director, Amy has worked with such notable directors as Lotfi Mansouri, Bernard Uzan, Stan Garner and Lamberto Puggelli. Other companies that have selected her to work with cover casts and young singers include, Washington National Opera, Natchez Opera Festival, Pine Mountain Music Festival, and International Opera Workshops where she served as Assistant Director to the critically acclaimed German Opera Director, Edmund Gleede. Amy attended DePaul University School of Music in Chicago, IL where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She received further training at the Second City Training Center in Chicago studying Improvisational Comedy. Amy currently resides in New York.
