1. Accessories are an essential statement that CANNOT be overlooked.
2. Each day your look projects your personal brand… think about what you want to say.
3. Take a few minutes in front of the mirror to edit your look, whether it’s adding conflicting pieces or adding an additional item.
4. Decide upon your signature accessory… a large ring? A bangle?
5. Don’t be afraid to add an accessory with a color you’re not already wearing.
6. Even when wearing neutrals (black, brown or grey) think about how color can be added – try a pink scarf tied around your bag as opposed to an “over the top” hot pink jacket.
7. On days where you have multiple activities, less is more – a simple top and jeans can be most effective while your accessories can enhance your style and personify who you are.
8. Think clean lines – skinny jeans look best when paired with a slender heel as opposed to a chunky shoe.
9. No time to change your outfit? Bring another set of accessories for a quick change.
10. Gemstones, python and more don’t have to be for evening wear only… they’re perfect for the daytime too!
11. Play with proportions. Pair your choker with a long necklace – layering is always encouraged.
12. What are your classics? Figure out your best assets – legs, arms, etc… find outfits that make them look great and then add accessories.
13. When you really think about your personal brand and what it means to you, it’s easier to plan what you will look like day to day. Whether you’re strolling the red carpet or running for brunch, there will always be an element that ties your looks together.
14. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got – “In the beginning, take a snapshot of your look if you want to see how you look – this becomes your own style book”
15. There are no rules but the rules you make… that’s why you’re a brand; you’re making your place.
16. Identify what “casual” and “a night out” mean to you in terms of your brand – this way it’ll be easier to construct your look.
17. A complete look consists of pieces of various different looks. Don’t buy pieces as if you purchased everything that the mannequin wore – be daring!
18. Mistakes happen – live, learn and move on. You’ll only know what works after you have played around with it.
19. Even though you may be preppy or rocker chic, this doesn’t mean that your accessories can’t come from other styles. Everything can be worked in to show your personal point of view.
20. Your best accessories can sometimes be found in your own closet. Every now and then shop your closet and see how previous trips shed a new light on what you have collected.
